Though his name is most often brought up in reference to his unsettling photographs of suburban houses at night, Todd Hido also spends his time making emotive portraits of various women in hotel rooms. I’m not sure what to say about this, or his work in genreal — and he seems reluctant to speak about it himself — but there’s no doubt that he really never fails to make beautiful images. And maybe somehow he inspired this photograph of mine?

Here is a video I came across of Hido at work (via Armando Bellmas’ blog) and for a bit more, listen to this NPR interview from 2002.

Thanks for the pointer to the NPR interview (and for the ping, too). It’s a nice complement to the video (especially the part where he gets chased off by an angry neighbor).

Check out this article for more insight into Hido’s portraits:

Between The Two is an amazing book. The portraits and landscapes complement each other perfectly. Incredibly well-paced and edited. What do you think, Shane?

Word is that Nazraeli is giving the book a second run in May.
