photo-eye: Signed Books

There are many fine places to buy photography books, some of which are better for different reasons. But, because of the growing number of great purchases I’ve made through this one particular site, photo-eye, I thought I’d share a bit of info for those who have not stumbled upon it.
Not only do they have an online bookstore but also galleries for purchasing prints, auctions for especially rare books and other misc. items, and their very own photo-eye Booklist Magazine, offering reviews as a guide to new photo books. Along with their comprehensive book index, photo-eye has separated the online bookstore into New Arrivals, Deep Discounts, Limited Editions, and my favorite — Signed Books, which are virtually the same cost as the cover price. It’s not as special to recieve a signed book from an artist that you didn’t interact with in person or have specifically sent to you but then again it’s, as one would expect, still more exciting to recieve than the unsigned version.

If you were curious what book I was talking about in my last post (the one that I got along side American Prospects), it was a signed copy of Alec Soth’s Niagara — now listed as “out of print” just two days later.
Some notable signed books that are still in stock (as of this morning) are as follows:
Mitch Epstein - Work $50
Lauren Greenfield - Thin $40
Chris Killip - Pirelli Work $55
Atta Kim - The Museum Project $50
Adam Bartos - Boulevard $65
Adam Bartos - Kosmos $40
Justin Kimball - Where We Find Ourselves $40
Jessica Backhaus - Jesus and the Cherries $228 (limited edition)
Eirik Johnson - Borderlands $75
Matthew Sleeth - Survey $45
David Maisel - The Lake Project $120 (limited edition)
Peter Fraser - Peter Fraser $65
Marc Joseph - New and Used $55
There are certainly others, but listing them all would be silly when you can just visit the site.
Some are sold rather quickly, others have been around for a little while. Anyway, I hope that atleast a few of you who love the photography book as much as I do will enjoy this discovery. If you put $2 into your piggy bank every day, you can get yourself one book every month.

Yeah, photo-eye’s a great site, so much to check out. I subscribed to their magazine not long ago and it’s interesting as well, there’s an Eggleston interview this issue that’s pretty cool.
By the way, wanted to let you know I’ve been enjoying your blog, just started reading about a week ago and have been finding a lot good stuff.
