I like your interaction with this character, but I don’t feel as though I can access this photograph because of the space between your camera and the subject. I think that if you got in there and really pushed the edges of the frame with his head and feet just barely away from the edges and the wood pile cropped tighter I think he would give you more of an intense gaze. This view is just too far for me to access the person and makes him feel just like another tree in the landscape. I love your dedication to photography though, It’s refreshing in an art school setting where things just need to “get done”.
did you get to see Serrano?

He was a very hesitant man. In fact, he almost called the cops on me prior to allowing me to take this portrait. I have an image where I was closer but, for this reason, I think the photo has that appropriate awkwardness. When the image is printed larger, it’s much easier to go into the frame (versus a computer monitor). But, yes, you’re right about the possibility of a more intense gaze, and I can see it too.
I wasn’t able to make it to Serrano’s lecture, unfortunately. Were you there? If so, how was it?

Yea I got to go. He was pretty much what I thought he would be. Check my blog for a more lengthy description.
