Whitney Hubbs is an MFA student at UCLA. Rather recently, she was selected as one of three “Juror’s Choice” picks (out of 819 entries) for the Project Competition at Center, chosen by Charles Guice. Whitney’s work is both autobiographical and documentary, describing what connects us all — “the loves, the sadness, the happiness, and the fears.” With Nothing Happens In June, the project selected by Guice, Whitney also caught my attention.

The last three years I have been photographing my life. This project, Nothing Happens in June, comes from my experiences of everyday life and the visual vocabulary that I use is personal and private. Portraits, landscapes, still lives, and snapshots are used to describe themes of sexuality, love, loneliness, disappointment, and hope.

Fun fact: Whitney has been an assistant of Todd Hido’s for the last few years.

See more of Whitney’s work on her website, including a series from Glasgow, Scotland.
