As Christian points out via both New York Times and Wired Blog, technology and photography have truly come together full force with the announcement of Google Maps‘s new feature “Street View.” Now, as long as your browser is compatable, you can get a 360-degree view street-level image (even in high-resolution) of various locations around the U.S. — right from your computer.
I’m even more curious about the potential of such technology and what this means for personal privacy, photography in general. As to the ownership of these images? Indeed, they belong to Google.
In any event, this means big things for the When Photographers Use Google Earth post.

On the topic of Google maps street view, I think it may lead to more of this sort of thing.
What the Chinese government is going to do with Google street view scares the shit out of me.
