Earlier today, Brian Ulrich made a post about “challenging the portrait” and shared some of Duane Hanson‘s sculptures made from polyester resin, fiberglass, Bondo and bronze. This instantly reminded me of the life-size photo-collage sculptures by Oliver Herring.

I couldn’t help but pair the two here, though each of these artists are working with different media/intents.

Very nice comparison. Both of the artists have amazing work. This is my first encounter with Oliver Herring. Need to see some in person!

striking at first glance…but one does wonder if he’s just taking the undergrad-level drawing task of “prisming” or “faceting” to the next level…and is that level really noteworthy?

“and is that level really noteworthy?” that’s not what he’s doing, and yes, it’s CERTAINLY noteworthy! also looking at these makes me think of Ron Mueck, that’s guy’s art blows my mind.
