Back in November, I mentioned a new series of photographs by Brian Ulrich entitled Thrift. The work explores the thrift store as an alternative to large-corporation consumption, focusing on the people and spaces that come together to define what these places look like. A bit of good news for those of you who enjoyed these photographs: Brian is in the process of organizing the work for a potential book!

In my last post about Friday night, I failed to mention getting a chance to flip through Brian’s mock-up for Thrift while I was at CVZ Contemporary. The book featured quite a few new images which are not online, but many of which were in the vein of his previous psychological portraits and interior studies. The edit seemed to be well underway and the sequence felt pretty close to perfect, though I’m sure Brian has a ways to go before he feels it’s complete.

Nonetheless, look out for this one in the near to distant future—you never know with these photo books.

I should remind everyone that two of Brian’s portraits from this series are on view right now in the A New American Portrait exhibition at jen bekman.
