Larry Sultan + E.E. Cummings

This may be a bit obvious again, but nonetheless I give you Larry Sultan paired with one of my favorites poets of all time, E.E. Cummings. If I continue with this, you’ll be seeing more Cummings for sure.

if there are any heavens my mother… (XLIII)
by E.E. Cummings

if there are any heavens my mother will(all by herself)have
one. It will not be a pansy heaven nor
a fragile heaven of lilies-of-the-valley but
it will be a heaven of blackred roses

my father will be(deep like a rose
tall like a rose)

standing near my

(swaying over her
silent)
with eyes which are really petals and see

nothing with the face of a poet really which
is a flower and not a face with
hands
which whisper
This is my beloved my

(suddenly in sunlight

he will bow,

& the whole garden will bow)

    Stop flogging Soth.
Although I do like ‘PHoetry’ nice touch

  • Soth has nothing to do with the fact that I got inspired to post the Brect poem. Or this one, either. In case you haven’t explored the internet, there are thousands of blogs that take an interest in poetry, even ones specifically devoted to fine works – not just Soth’s Friday feature. And believe it or not, I’ve been writing this blog for almost 5 years now. Yes, the archives only go back to 2005 because I deleted what came before that, but you may find it interesting to know what I often did between 2002 and 2005:

    I posted photographs with poems.

Occasionally I post things here that aren’t 100% photography related (in this case it’s, what, 50%?) and I hope you don’t honestly think these posts are an attempt to ‘flog’ anyone. On the contrary, I hope you enjoy them.

While I have you here, ANON, you should revisit the last post you commented on [link] and respond to my question.

  • Hey Shane,

being an e.e.cummings fan as well I assume that you have read His short non-lectures? They are amazing.

    Hello Shane,

Thanks for posting the photograph and poem. As Grant, I am a cummings fan also. I did not know this particular poem, so thanks.
