I was happy to find German photographer Anne Lass‘ project Milwaukee Avenue. Milwaukee Avenue is a street that stretches its way, for several miles, through various neighborhoods, from downtown Chicago to the North-Western suburbs of the city. Anne carries her camera around looking simply at the “incidents that occur when walking the same street over and over again.”

During her walks, she has made some incredibly beautiful photographs.

Also see her other projects – Wohnheim, Wandeln and Geography of Nowhere.

Thanks for sharing this (and everything else on your blog), Shane. Your posts consistently provide me with inspiration to truly engage with my photography and surroundings more and more. Always a pleasant visit.

This project reminds me of the writings of Allan Kaprow, but more specifically the last paragraph of his essay entitled, “Notes on the Elimination of the Audience” (1966); in which he refers to the mundane acts of everyday life as a performance (i.e. “a bus stopping to pick up commuters”).

I like thinking about it that way.
