Over on NY Arts, Jonathan Feinstein (curatorial director of the Humble Arts Foundation) talks with Grant Willing (co-founder and curator of Fjord).

Jon asks Grant,

There has been a lot of talk over the past few years about how the internet and the digital age are changing the nature of photography, how populist photo sites like Flickr and JPEG magazine, and online art/photo projects like Tinyvices, Humble, and now Fjord (as well as a million blogs!) are dramatically altering photography’s venue, audience, the way it is perceived, and often its philosophical implications. What is your take on all this? How does Fjord fit in?

And the conversation goes on from there. Ultimately, we wonder, “where will this young generation of emerging photographers ‘take’ photography?” It’s short, so take a moment to read it.

I love how Grant refers to the Brownie… I think he has a good point there. Also people should realise how young the medium of photography is (compared to sculpting or painting for instance). So it’s not strange it’s still developing, for me that’s what makes it so interesting. There’s a whole area concerning photography that is still open to explore, theoretically and practically. Nothing to worry about I think, even though the digitalization does worry me sometimes, it’s only something to look forward to. To be able to see how this will evolve.

With the opportunity to all, photography as a medium will only grow. No matter if you are young or old.
