Apparently Cara Phillips had a stint in the beauty business (on the other side of the camera) before coming to photography. Her series titled Machines is a stark exploration of the nature and consequences of beauty in our culture.

As a side note, Cara recently made a really wonderful post on her blog, Ground Glass, where she discusses her meaningful relationship studying under Joel Sternfeld and his with mentor Robert Frank.
