Whether you’re a Crewdson-lover or a Crewdson-hater, it’s worth checking out Aperture’s behind the scenes exclusive. Read two interviews with him, see production stills on location, and learn about his process and some of the people involved in the making of an image.

Is there really such a thing as a Crewdson hater?

Haha, I think I’ve met a few.
But I feel like everyone should atleast be a Crewdson-appreciator.

I was not a Crewdson hater, but also not much of a fan, until I saw his recent show in person. I just happened to be walking through Chelsea and passed the gallery, of course I had to go in, and I was floored. If nothing else, the work is beautiful on a scale that is difficult to comprehend. I could take or leave some of the subject matter, but it’s growing on me. He happened to be there signing books that day, so I even got a copy of the book.
Did you happen to see the “Genius of Photography” series on BBC? There was a nice piece on Crewdson (and also Sally Mann) in episode 6.

This “production still” seems it should be from Larry Sultan’s “The Valley”
For me, Crewdson is the Steven Spielberg of photography. Entertaining but not that deep. Of course I am not the first to make this analogy, but it rings true for me especially when contrasted against the likes of Jeff Wall.
Anyway, love your blog, Keep it roll’n.
