Thomas Hauser: Amazona and Love

Amazona, a lovely series of black and white flower still lifes by Thomas Hauser:

Contrasting nature with glass bottles, shooting colourful flowers in black and white, Hauser generates a wonderfully unique perspective within each of these photographs. Leaving much to interpretation, the pictures are a nice example of his vision as a photographer.

Whether you’re a keen gardener, or simply keep a vase of flowers in order to brighten up the desk where you work or play cheekybingo, these stunning photographs highlight the beauty which can be found in wilting blooms, an inspiration to anyone interested in still life or black and white photography.

Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili: Ere Is My Head

Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili‘s work caught my eye recently, with her images inspired by “the idea of the photograph as fugitive testimony.”

All those young photographers who are at work in the world, determined upon the capture of actuality, do not know that they are agents of Death… With the Photograph we enter into flat Death.
– Roland Barthes, from Camera Lucida

See more in her first solo exhibition “Ere Is My Head” – up through May 31st at Eighth Veil in Los Angeles, CA.

One Hour Photo

I’m happy to have a photograph of mine included in One Hour Photo, a unique exhibition that will be held from May 8th – June 6th at the American University Museum at Katzen Arts Center in Washington, DC.

The premise of “One Hour Photo” is simple: project a photograph for one hour, then ensure that it will never be seen again.

Created by Adam Good and curated with Chajana denHarder and Chandi Kelley, the exhibition brings together 128 artists including Noel Rodo-Vankeulen, Tim Davis, Charles Benton, Nicola Kast, Andraya Parlato, Brian Ulrich, Gregory Halpern, Nigel Shafran, Lucas Blalock, Jason Lazarus, Shane Lavalette, Penelope Umbrico, Matthew Gamber, Ann Woo, and many others.

All of the artists including myself signed a release form stating that our images will never be published or exhibited anywhere, meaning that the one hour projection is the only place/time to see these works.

My photograph will be on view from 11am – 12pm on Wednesday, June 2nd.

View the full schedule here.

Bryan Schutmaat has been working with Houston-based photographer Peter Brown over the last few months to digitize his work and create a nice website for him. Bryan just wrote to tell me that the site is now online and includes images from two of Peter’s projects West of Last Chance and On the Plains. Coming soon: Seasons of Light, a series that consists of 20 dye-transfer prints made in the ’70s.
